Macomb Twp. Brick Paver Explains How To Extend Your Paver Patio’s Longevity

June 12, 2018 by PMS Brick Pavers – We’re the Guys

Paver stones are known for their beauty, versatility and their extreme durability. And although they are more durable than other materials, they won’t last forever. However, there are some steps you can take to make sure your paver patio lasts as long as possible.

Hire an Experienced Brick Paver Contractor

Oftentimes, brick pavers will need to be repaired prematurely because of installation mistakes made by an inexperienced homeowner or contractor. These mistakes may include an improper base or improper grading which eventually leads to sunken areas or shifting of the pavers.

To avoid these costly repairs, have the job done right the first time and contact an experienced brick paver contractor. Your paver patio is a huge investment. So make sure to interview the contractor, ask for references, and you can even ask to take a look at their previous work.

Apply Sealant After Installation – But Not Immediately After

If you want your brick paver stones to last, sealing is not a choice, it is a must.  Sealing your pavers will help repel stains, deter weeds/moss and protect them from the seasonal elements. In the winter, you have snow, ice and salt that can wreak havoc on your pavers. Then in the summer there is the extreme heat beating down on your paver stones.

Wait at least 2 months after installation to apply a sealant. This will allow the pavers to settle correctly. However, if winter will hit before the 2 month waiting period is over, you will need to seal them anyway. Try to have your pavers installed in the spring or summer so you can allow the pavers to settle and still seal them in time for winter.

Clean and Reseal Your Paver Patio Every 2 Years

After the installation and first sealing, there is not an overwhelming amount of maintenance but you will be required to clean the patio and apply a new layer of sealant every 24 months.

This means cleaning the surface thoroughly with a pressure washer to remove any debris or stains. Next, you will need to either contact the manufacturer of the pavers or a local paver contractor to find out what product to use, to strip off the old sealant. Finally, after you have removed the old sealant, it is time to apply the new layer of sealant.

I’m Looking for a Macomb Twp. Brick Paver Contractor to Install and Maintain my Paver Patio

Ultimately, if you want to keep your pavers in the best shape as possible, you will want to have an experienced brick paver contractor install the patio to ensure no construction mistakes are made during installation.  Then, inquire about any maintenance program they may have to address the cleaning, stripping and resealing every 2 years.

If you are looking for either brick paver installation or maintenance, contact JJW Brick today at: 1-800-BRICKPAVERS and let us schedule a FREE quote for your paver patio, driveway or walkway.

4 Outdoor Furnishing Ideas for Your Backyard Patio

March 18, 2018 by PMS Brick Pavers – We’re the Guys

Imagine if your living room had just a couch and nothing else in it. It wouldn’t be nearly as cozy as it could be. The same can be said about your backyard patio. When it comes to outdoor living areas, the same things that make an indoor space relaxing and welcoming can be used to achieve the same effect outdoors.

With the right outdoor furnishings, hosting guests in your outdoor living areas will be just as convenient and enjoyable as inside your home. You may find yourself looking forward to using the patio more often, not just for entertaining but as a personal place to relax and unwind.

To get the most out of your patio, these are four outdoor furnishing ideas to start with.

  1. Lighting

For outdoor living spaces, lighting is often at the bottom of the list of priorities. After all, people don’t usually think of stepping outside when it’s dark out. However, not considering lighting options is a lost opportunity for maximizing the use of your backyard patio.

Good lighting can transform the ambiance of a space. Table and floor lamps can create a warm atmosphere at night which opens up the patio for even more uses. Ambiance lighting can make the area feel more inviting and comfortable and allows you to use your outdoor space whenever you want.

  1. Accessories

Your living room probably has a lot of accessories. These are the little touches that truly make it your own personal space. Why not try to get the same effect for an outdoor living space?

Small additions like vases, candles, art pieces, and other trinkets can make your backyard feel refined and complete. They also add a bit of personality which helps make it a memorable place for guests. Many people have patios that are basic and barren. Interesting accessories help fill out the space to truly make it an extension of your home.

  1. Seating Areas

Just because you’re outdoors doesn’t mean you can’t get comfortable. If you plan on using the patio to entertain guests, then seating areas shouldn’t be neglected.

Built-in seating along the edges of the patio is a good place to start. If you want to use the patio as a place to get closer to one another, having a spot to gather around a fire pit can help. Think of it as your own personal campfire where everyone can take a seat and enjoy each other’s company.

  1. Dining Area

Turn your backyard patio into a second dining space. Aside from having a table for meals, you can take it even further by having an outdoor kitchen. It’s the perfect addition that can make for the most memorable meals with family and friends. Now you’ll always have a reason to invite people over.

If you want to have a backyard patio that you love spending time in, get in touch with PMS Brick Pavers. We specialize in brick paver outdoor living space design, installation, repair, and maintenance to give homeowners the ultimate comfortable outdoor living space. 3 Things to Think About When Designing Outdoor Living Spaces

March 9, 2018 by PMS Brick Pavers – We’re the Guys

Spring is officially here and warmer weather is on its way (fingers crossed). Even though it may not feel a lot like spring yet, it’s time to head outdoors and soak up some much-needed sunlight and fresh air. But going outdoors doesn’t have to mean a hike in the woods. Enjoying your backyard can be just as good.

Functional outdoor living spaces are essential to a residential property. They’re a place not just to enjoy the outdoors while being in the comfort of your own home, but they can also be a venue to get closer to your family and friends. A patio is the perfect place to create wonderful memories with the people you care most about.

To help make sure you make the most of it, here are a few things to keep in mind when designing an outdoor living space.

  1. Location

Most homes have their outdoor living spaces in the backyard. This provides the privacy you need to relax while providing the fresh air and conveniences that come with your home.

When designing something like a patio, it’s also important to keep in mind the space available. Not all properties will have a large enough space for every design you may want. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a great patio in a smaller space. It just means that the design has to be done more carefully to achieve the results you’re wanting.

  1. Planned Uses

As with every part of your home, there is a specific use in mind for each area. An outdoor living space is a place to relax but it can also be a place to hang out with your family or host guests for small gatherings.

Depending on what you see yourself using the area for, you might want to think about accessibility to the patio, seating areas, places to put down drinks, etc. After all, outdoor living spaces need to be functional. Your patio has to be convenient for everyone to use instead of just another feature that’s nice to look at and nothing more.

  1. Layout and Furnishings

The next step after thinking about what you want to use the patio for is to figure out what outdoor furniture you want to include and where to put it. If you’ll be entertaining large groups, you may need a large sofa and extra space for the seating area. If you want it to be a place for family meals, then include a dining table and chairs that will adequately fit the space and match the look of the patio.

For more extravagant ideas, you can have a custom fire pit built in to the patio or a dedicated outdoor kitchen. Just make sure these are far enough away from guests so they won’t have to deal with any smoke smothering them.

Outdoor living spaces are often a homeowner’s favorite part of their property. Make sure yours turns out the same with the help from PMS Brick Pavers. We specialize in using brick pavers for custom made outdoor spaces such as patios, decks, walkways, and driveways. Get in touch with us today.

Curb Appeal…Your Buyers First Impression

We all know the saying “you only get one chance to make a first impression.” The same is true when selling a house. The front yard is usually the first view a potential buyer has when shopping for a new home. In a slower housing market this impression can be what intrigues or attracts a buyer to look at a home. Creating curb appeal can make or break the sale of a home. Many buyers have difficulty visualizing the potential of a home’s landscape. Providing a well maintained yard can create comfort for the potential buyer as they view the interior and exterior elements of a home. [Read more…]
